Coaching
Shaun Priestley is an Ilca specific coach having worked with sailors at junior, youth and senior level over the last 10 years.
In the current 2024 Olympic cycle, Shaun has been working closely with Bermudian sailors in the Ilca 6 and 7 as well as offering occasional support to GBR sailors in the RYA pathway.
The 2024 project has provided Shaun with coaching experience at the Pan American Games, World Sailing World championships, world cup regattas Palma and Hyeres and ILCA class senior Europeans and Worlds. The above work has resulted in Bermuda ILCA 6 qualifying for the Olympic Games and regular training blocks and regattas are now on the agenda in the run up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Other coaching highlights have included ISAF youth world champion and silver medal coach, top 3 positions at ILCA youth World and European Championships, coaching the British junior and youth Ilca squads, lead coach on the national U.K. Laser Association training program and coaching on the World Sailing Emerging Nations programme.
The philosophy behind all this work is that everyone should have the opportunity to succeed and that each individual may require a specific plan to help them unlock their potential.
Consultancy
Shaun cares deeply about the grassroots of the sport and has both qualifications and experience in sailing centre management, instructor programmes, coach/ trainer programmes and training scheme creation & development.
Shaun has worked closely with the RYA on the integration of Foiling into the RYA National Sailing Scheme, the Sail GP on the creation of a global foiling scheme, with the lead youth coaches at the Italian Federation on foil training and with the organisers of The Foiling Week. This work was to ensure foiling was and continues to made more accessible to the wider sailing community.
Previous roles have included being the Operations manager of the SailLaser centres on Lake Garda, the Development manager of the Andrew Simpson Foundation and a member of the RYA training team.
